Pension & Health Benefits

The Conference Board of Pensions and Health Benefits met November 25, 2009 and made the following decisions regarding the first half of 2010:

    • Pensions:  The pension calculation will be the same as for 2009.  As was true in past years, all churches with a paid pastor (even retired clergy and lay supply)  will be billed for a fair share of the conference pension liability based on the following calculation:
      • 1) Take your pastor's cash salary and add cash benefits (anything that is given as cash without a receipt required, including but not limited to travel and housing allowances).  This does not include reimbursables;
      • 2)  If the pastor lives in the parsonage, multiply the total of “1” by 1.25;
      • 3)  Then multiply that by .12
      • The result of these calculations will be your yearly obligation to the Wyoming Conference.  Half of that will be required by June 30, 2010. 
      • Divide the total of “3” by 12.  This is your monthly payment until the end of June.
      • What the new conferences will be billing for the second half of 2010 is unknown at this point, but the new conference entities are working to get you that information in a timely manner.

·         Medical Church Share:  Likewise, the portion of the medical plan not paid by participants is shared by all churches.  This figure is based on your financial strength rating and calculations have been completed.  Please refer to the 2010 Health Insurance Bill by Church to look up your church’s amount.  While the calculations have been done based on the full year we don’t currently know what each church’s share of the conference Health Insurance costs will be under their new conference structure.  From Jan 1, 2010 through July 1, 2010 the monthly amount of the 2010 Health Insurance bill will be due to the Wyoming conference. Your church will be informed as planning progresses as to what the new conference allocation and billing will be from July 1, 2010 through Dec 31, 2010. 

    • Pastor's Personal Share:  The pastor's personal share payments for the medical plan will remain the same as 2009 for the first half of 2010.  Single participants pay $287/month; Clergy +1 is $546/month and participants with family coverage pay $694/month.  As with Pensions and the Church Share of Medical, this is subject to change as of July 2010.  Every effort will be made to communicate these details in a timely manner.
